START QUILTING 101

In this class we will address rotary cutting skills, color selection and the importance of scale, how to piece the quit top ensuring a "scant 1/4" or 1/4" seam allowance and the importance of pressing. We will learn how to square up a quilt block, apply borders, basic simple machine quilting, and binding your quilt.
We will discuss -
Fabric colors - understanding Contrast and Value, and dark vs light
Quarter Inch Foot and testing to achieve a "scant" quarter inch
Even-Feed (Walking Foot) for your machine
If you do all your homework, you will have a small (approximately 40" x 40") sampler quilt at the end of this class.

Start Quilting with Alex Anderson (3rd Edition) Book, included with class fee - We will be making the Sampler Quilt on page 41 of this book
Sewing Machine and manual
Size 80/12 sewing machine needles
Cotton Thread (white, off-white or gray)
Scissors
Thread snips (if you have them)
6" x 24" Cutting Ruler
8 1/2" or 9" Square Cutting Ruler
Rotary Cutter 45mm
Self-Healing cutting mat (medium or large)
Fine Pins
Seam Ripper
Tape Measure
Fat Quarters and Yardage - this will be discussed in the first class and a field trip to My Sewing Barn Quilt Shop will be scheduled
