Bring to Class:
- Sewing machine in good working condition, working knowledge on how to operate your machine, and be able to sew a consistent ¼” seam allowance.
- Rotary cutter
- Seam ripper
- Acrylic Ruler
- Scissors
- Bobbins (you will use approximately 4 bobbins for this project)
- Marking pen
- Pins and needles
- Walking Foot (optional) – I’ve never used one on my projects and had no problems
- Elmers Glue Stick
- Spray basting (505 Spray) – Optional
- Patience – this is a key element for a successful project!
Helpful Hints Choosing Fabric:
- I chose the bottom fabric first and found coordinating fabric for the twister pinwheels.
- Choose small prints for the 5” squares (the pinwheel part). Large prints get lost when cutting out the pinwheels.
- Use all 100% cotton fabrics.
- Use contrasting colors for the pinwheels so they pop – use both light and dark colors. Fabrics too close in color and tone will blend and you won’t see the pinwheels very well. To test this, use your camera on your phone and take a picture of your fabric choices. Use the editing tool and turn it into a black and white photo. This will show how closely related your colors are.
- Begin your new project with a new sewing machine needle and new rotatory cutting blade.
Prior to class, please assemble your 30 - 5” blocks alternating light and dark colors with six rows across and five columns down. Press seam rows in alternating directions so when assembling the rows the blocks nestle together.
Add a 3” boarder.
