Big Katahdin Tote Bag by Aunties Two

Prep-work prior to class:

• Wind at least four (4) bobbins with thread, unless using pre-wounds
• Cut 40 strips of 2 ½″ by WOF (if not using a jelly roll)
• Cut 50 yards of light weight cotton batting 2½” if not using a pre-cut batting roll
• Press all fabric with sizing spray (except when using 2½” jelly roll strips)

What you will need to make this fabulous traveling tote:

• 40 strips of 2 1/2″ x WOF or 40 jelly roll strips (bag body)
• 1 3/4 yards of coordinating fabric for pockets, binding, handles, inside bottom, zipper tabs, and zipper bows
• 1/6 yard Bosal In-R-Form double sided fusible foam stabilizer 58" wide
• 1 – 50 yard roll of Bosal’s Katahdin batting precut to 2½” or cut strips from light weight cotton batting (used for bag body, handles, and zipper tabs)
• 5/8 yard of double-sided fusible stiff interfacing for inside bottom (Firm Flex will work)
• matching thread 50 weight polyester preferred but 40 weight is doable
• 30" (minimum size) double-slide zipper with wide zipper tape
• optional: 1/4″ plumbing tubing for stiffening handles or aquarium tubing will work too
• Sewing machine with walking foot that can accommodate a zig-zag foot and 1/4″ foot with a guide, zipper foot, and the machine needs free arm capabilities; include power cord, foot pedal, sewing book, and all accessories
• Denim sewing machine needles size: 90/14 or 100/16
• scissors, seam ripper, pins, safety pin, rotary cutter 60mm recommended, 24″ x 36″ cutting mat, two acrylic rulers (1 large and 1 medium), cloth tape measure, disappearing fabric pen or removable chalk, teflon sheet or parchment paper, 8″x 20″ cardboard
• Jelly Roll tube maker - This can wait till day of class.  I will demonstrate 3 that we carry and you can then decide which one you would like to purchase.
